What signal are we sending? Australian business leaders are urging the Coalition to take steps to ensure foreign investors do not get the wrong signal. They are concerned the decision to block the $3 billion US takeover of GrainCorp could undermine the government's promise that Australia is open for business. Corporate heavyweight Don Argus told The Weekend Australian that, while he was sure there were good reasons for the Treasurer's decision, it should make us all think about how we are going to attract overseas capital. We can't just close ourselves off from the capital markets. If we do then we just become a branch office country.
