The investment world received a shock at the end of last week with the very unexpected departure of Bill Gross from PIMCO. The Bond King isn't just leaving the world's biggest bond fund (a company he basically created from scratch), but he's also moving to Janus Capital Group. Janus, a mutual fund company, hasn't been a big player in the industry since the dot.com bubble burst - although the company still manages $178 billion in assets. Gross is apparently leaving over a difference of opinion with the board of directors regarding the future direction of PIMCO. While he hasn't had a strong track record in recent years, a change of scenario could help to revitalize both Gross, and perhaps give Janus the boost it needs to get back into the limelight. The Bloomberg article linked gives a good summary of the situation. (VIEW LINK)
