Enjoying watching gold's recovery as it hit a 16-week high overnight on Portuguese banking concerns and an equities slump. In Portugal, Banco Espirito Santo SA bonds plunged to record levels after a parent company delayed debt payments on short-term notes, fueling concern that the euro region remains vulnerable to financial shocks. Meanwhile the Standard & Poor's 500 Index of U.S. shares fell by as much as 1%. Gold's resilience is demonstrated by the fact that it has climbed 11% so far this year, outpacing gains for indexes of commodities, equities and treasuries.
