Market Update: The S&P/ASX 200 was down 0.3% to 5,316 points in cautious trade after Crimeans voted to allow Russia to annex their region from Ukraine. Banks were mixed with ANZ being the only major bank up 0.9% while the other three were lower between 0.4% to 0.6%. Resources were also mixed with BHP and RIO both down 0.6% and 0.4% respectively. Gold stocks were the best performers among the sector as spot gold rose 0.9% in its last trading session. Northern Star Resources climbed 8.6%. The AUD was trading slightly up at USD 0.9050. The SPI was down 0.2% at 5,317 points on the Sydney Futures Exchange.
