Oil Search, one of the least volatile and best returning stocks in the resources sector over many years, is set to unveil a refreshed business strategy on 23 October designed to reproduce top quartile investment returns over the next 5-7 years. The company is a rare example in the sector of a company framing its strategy around a set of targeted investment outcomes. There is some pressure to keep the momentum going. Since the beginning of 2011, the company has produced an investment return in the top 5% of those available in the sector. As it hits its production targets in PNG, the next stage of the company's success, and source of continuing high investment returns, will be exploration success. This changes the risk profile of investments in the company. No longer will it be priced for its development potential. The share price uptrend which dates from as far back as 2003 is already showing some signs of losing momentum at a critical point just as its new strategy is to be unveiled.
