Overnight Update: The US stock market rose on Thursday, sending the S&P 500 into record territory, as investors digested a number of economic reports and speeches from several Federal Reserve officials. Treasuries were down after weekly jobless claims fell to the lowest level since the end of November. The euro jumped more than 1 cent against the dollar. Gold futures edged higher, holding ground above $1,340 an ounce. Oil prices struggled to find direction, but held above $101 a barrel. Most UK stocks advanced with Aviva and Aggreko rallying after well-received earnings report. European stock markets pared advances in the afternoon after European Central Bank President Mario Draghi offered no fresh easing measures to fight the euro zone's low inflation. London:BHP up 0.69% Rio up 1.41% Base metals on the LME posted gains.
