Overnight: US stocks fluctuated, trading in a narrow range, as disappointing earnings from IBM and Coach Inc. dampened the mood. Treasury prices slid, as improving economic data overseas pushed the value of the dollar lower, and yields higher as a result. Gold vacillated between small gains and losses, as investors digested a bearish call. Oil futures extended gains, as investors awaited upcoming U.S. crude inventory data and the scheduled start-up of TransCanada's Gulf Coast Pipeline, while natural-gas prices saw a sharp jump in the wake of another storm for the East Coast. U.K.'s FTSE 100 index pulled back after better-than-expected unemployment data sparked fears the Bank of England will raise interest rates sooner than expected. European stocks logged moderate gains, helped by big gains for ASML Holding NV and Peugeot SA. London BHP down 1.11%. Rio up 0.45%. New York BHP down 0.45%. Rio up 0.79%. Base metal traded mixed.
