Thanksgiving Oil Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas and all the rest of the materialistic excuses to spend is upon us. The joy that comes from giving now also comes in the form of a lower price at the petrol pump for the consumer that's gotta drive given yesterdays e-nour-mous move lower in Oil post the OPEC decision not to cut production.. Whilst the dollars saved is relatively small over the course of the year for the average driver, I have the impression that the psychological boost from lower fuel price gives a bigger boost to consumer spending habits than what was saved filling up the car. Whilst I have no evidence (and no car!) to back that claim up, what I have witnessed in the past two days is a US equity market with a large exposure to consumer focussed businesses that has slightly appreciated while commodity linked currencies and energy export economy stock markets have been slammed as Oil has tanked over 7%.
