A disappointing NAB business survey for August has just been released with both confidence and conditions falling from a month earlier. All survey components held steady or fell with the employment gauge, a reasonable lead indicator for labour market strength, holding flat for a second-consecutive month. Coupled with a slowdown in quarterly labour costs, down to +0.7% from +0.9% in Q2, and it points to a very subdued consumption picture as we head towards year-end.
