A wise man once declared: forecasting is really difficult, in particular regarding the future. As 2014 draws to a close, investors are once again reminded virtually noone forecasted where the local share market is at today, let alone the prices of commodities and currencies. Making exact forecasts is a bit of a gamble and giggle and luck plays an important part. But looking forward through broader macro trends does serve an important purpose and investors who go contrarian usually end up regretting it.
