Are Russia-Ukraine tensions creating a buying opportunity? European stocks fell to their lowest levels in 3 months, as concern mounted over 20,000 Russian troops on the Ukraine border. Economic data last night from Germany was negative: German factory orders unexpectedly fell 3.2%, the greatest fall since Sept 2011. Unfortunately, while the current crisis is a complicated issue current escalation appears to be largely caused by one man's ego. While I believe the will be more news from the region I believe this will create a buying opportunity and is not a reason to panic. It's important to remember markets lead news e.g. the low in world equities when the allied tanks actually rolled into Iraq. The GermanDAX has fallen 10% in the last 2 months as we have been forecasting. I am only anticipating another 4% decline in the DAX so from a risk/reward basis buying opportunities are rapidly becoming of greater interest.
