Shadowy crypto-currency ‘Bitcoin’ has broken through $2000, to put in a modest 20-fold gain in four years – see chart below. Fortune takes a look at three possible reasons for the most recent surge. Not on the list though was the demand, or speculation of future demand, from ‘Wannacry’ a recent ransomware attack that hit corporates globally and requested payment in the currency.
