Credit Suisse global equities strategist Andrew Garthwaite recently laid seven concrete investing ideas for 2014. Underlying the ideas presented is a belief that global GDP growth will accelerate to 3.75% by the end of next year. When it comes to specific trade ideas Credit Suisse recommends being overweight equities although underweight US equities relative to other global markets. Garthwaite believes Japanese firms have the most to gain from a pickup in global growth because they were unusually vulnerable to the downturn in the first place. He remains cautious on gold in the context of a strengthening US dollar and suggests investors think about companies that benefit from corporate spending as American Corporations sit cash levels nearly 3 times their historical average.
