Omega Advisors’ Leon Cooperman has amassed a $3.7 billion fortune. In the meantime, Omega has only had 6 down years since 1992. So how do Cooperman and Omega make investment decisions? In a recent presentation, investors in Omega got to see some key insights to the company’s approach. Omega uses 4 main avenues to make money: market direction, asset allocation, developed country equities, and macro strategies. Regarding asset allocation, the company spends “a great deal of time analyzing the relative attractiveness of stocks, bonds, cash, commodities, and other asset classes”. In terms of stock selection, Omega looks at undervalued longs and overvalued shorts. The company is a “value-based, catalyst driven investor” heavily focused on the fundamentals.
