Making sense of Australia's September jobs 'lottery' Australia's unemployment rate rose to 6.1% in September, in line with expectations but above the 6.0% rate of August. Employment dropped by 29,700, well below the median economist forecast for a gain of 15,500. Full-time employment rose by 21,600 with part time falling by 51,300.
