Matt Williams, Head of Equities, shares his impressions on the recent reporting period. Williams says that companies are giving investors what they want, reflected in the strong flow of dividends being returned to shareholders. Areas of strength include those businesses exposed to the strong domestic construction cycle, such as Boral, as well as retailers like Harvey Norman that sell consumer goods needed to fill new properties. Williams says whilst the market does look expensive when compared to historical levels the low interest rate environment remains supportive for equities. When it comes to value, names such as Aurizon, Boral and JB Hi-Fi are a few of the stocks mentioned.
