PARTS of the Sydney CBD are in lockdown as gunmen hold up a popular cafe. The Lindt Cafe in Martin Place is surrounded by police with a number of hostages seen in the windows. Police have evacuated the area and transport in the city has been severely affected. A Sydney Transport spokeswoman told news.com.au: Trains are not running between Central and Bondi on the eastern suburbs and Illawarra line. MORE: Live updates Martin Place siege. Trains are still running on the city circle but that might change as authorities follow direction from police. She added buses are being diverted away from Elizabeth Street and Hunter Street and police are closing roads subject to change. City Transport are recommending people stay away from the Sydney CBD.
