Scott Ryall, head of research at CLSA Australia, heads a team that got some big calls right in 2013 including sells on QBE Insurance, WorleyParsons and Qantas. He says the results of his firm's Mr & Mrs Australia survey raise doubts about the idea that consumers will materially increase spending in 2014. He doubts whether businesses are ready to ramp-up the growth capital expenditure that would offset resources investment reductions. In 2014 the real winners in Australia will be those with exposure to CLSA's largest regional theme, increased con-sumption from the emerging Asian middle class. (VIEW LINK)
