We urgently need a national summit to seize the opportunities the G20 and China FTA have thrown up for Australia. There is no doubt Australia is at a pivotal moment. On the one hand we face major economic challenges with the post-mining-boom decline in terms of trade; the likes of Europe and Japan remain mired in economic stagnation. Without action we could be dragged down quickly. But we also have major opportunities, particularly in the wake of the free trade agreement struck with China. We need an Australian business and trade summit to work out how we as a nation can capitalise on these openings. No talk fest and no grandstanding but a focus on opportunities and solutions.
