Bad news for thermal coal producers, with the US Environmental Protection Agency on Friday proposing tough new climate regulations

Bad news for thermal coal producers, with the US Environmental Protection Agency on Friday proposing tough new climate regulations. The proposed new rules would virtually halt the construction of new coal-fired power plants and require all new plants to be equipped with hugely expensive carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology. This means more US coal seeking markets overseas and more competition for Australian coal.
