Budget breakdown by stocks: The Abbott Coalition Government's first Federal Budget is a contractionary budget which we estimate will have a real GDP hit of 0.5% next financial year and around 2.0% over the next four years. This would create the largest fiscal contraction from a Federal Budget since the '96-97 Costello Budget. In our view, the government clearly decided that the economy is robust enough to absorb the Budget's related fiscal contraction. We predict this Budget has the potential to push out any interest rate rises, which we are currently anticipating will start in 2015.
