Andrew Clifford, CIO, Platinum Asset Management talks China with Mark Draper from GEM Capital. Clifford believes that, “if we step back and think about the longer term about these Chinese A-Shares, it’s very interesting that it is a market where there is very little institutional investment. Over a longer period of time, players like pension funds, insurance companies who have minimum if any exposure to shares. That’s not likely to be the case five years down the track… We think as investors, people get too exited about these day to day moves… the really good companies haven’t come off that much they are more of 15-20% rather than the very dramatic falls in the more speculative parts of the market and indeed for us that is just an opportunity to buy some more of these companies”.
