Forget official statistics - one of the best indicators of growth in China are power consumption levels. Encouragingly, China's power consumption rose by 8.8% during July compared to the same period last year, the biggest usage since January and an acceleration from 6.3% in June. Consumption by heavy and light industries rose by 11% and 7% respectively, whilst hot weather has also boosted power demand.
