Fund managers wading into oil stocks - citing long term fundamentals. Sam Le Cornu, a portfolio manager at Macquarie in Hong Kong says We're looking at all energy shares at the moment. We would rather buy commodity stocks when oil prices are low like right now, rather than chasing momentum. With oil you need to be very long term, it's a finite resource and not recyclable like copper or gold, so for us it's one of the commodities where we are more confident of buying on these very strong pullbacks. Don Williams, the CIO at Platypus agrees, saying we invest in oil stocks that have at least 10 or more typically 20 year projects and we think the fair value for the long term oil prices is a lot higher than where we are today.
