In the face of the onslaught of corporate bookmakers and online betting it seems illogical to have 3 Australian betting pools. We asked John Abernethy, CIO of Clime, Which sector is ripe for some consolidation. I have no real insights on this as I perceive that most of Australian industry has been consolidated to an excessive degree. However, I do wonder as to why there are still three Australian race betting pools. It seems illogical in the face of the onslaught of corporate bookmakers and online betting. State based pools need to be addressed. State governments and the totalizer companies through co-operation could surely benefit from lower costs, deeper and therefore larger pools. The benefits of this initiative could be shared between shareholders, punters and governments. Maybe good for Tabcorp and Tattersall's Group, but I am merely speculating.
