In this video released today, Dr Shane Oliver, Head of Investment Strategy and Chief Economist at AMP, discusses the outlook for the remainder of the year. Despite concerns regarding the US, European and Chinese economies, overall markets have performed relatively well. The primary reason is the magnitude of stimulus measures which have come out of these countries. The end result is that the global economy has continued to grow and has underpinned gains in growth assets such as equities. Oliver advises against holding high cash balances as this will erode returns given cash rates are at record lows. As the global economy improves, investors should lean towards growth assets such as shares and property. As to the outlook for the remainder of the year, Oliver sees ongoing easy monetary conditions in US, Europe and Japan and well as a gradual pick-up in emerging markets. (VIEW LINK)
