Insights into the US Oil and Gas infrastructure boom. Tim Humphreys from AMP Capital says the opportunity in infrastructure is misunderstood in Australia. Generally domestic investors view infrastructure as a annuity style or bond proxy investment. However, Humphreys says that the level of investment required in infrastructure in Europe and the US is such that the asset class offers attractive growth as well as yield. Following a recent visit to the United States Humphreys says the level of activity and investment on the back of the oil and gas industry is like nothing he has seen in the space before. Whilst many would view the prospect of rising rates as a threat to the bond proxy nature of infrastructure investments Humphreys says the weight of investment required will see long term returns in the double digits.
