Matt Williams, Head of Equities at Perpetual, says value is lacking in the Australian market. When I look around the market I don't find a lot of value, but if I was sitting here this time last year I probably would have said the same thing. Speaking alongside BTIM's Crispin Murray at a Morningstar conference Williams said that the current interest rate environment left few attractive options outside of equities and certain businesses would still deliver good returns. Williams highlighted The ASX and Aurizon as businesses he was backing in the current environment. On the flip-side - both Williams and Murray expressed caution about the recent run in new media stocks. According to Williams, stocks such as REA, SEEK and Carsales are vulnerable.
