I think similar reasoning can be applied to overly generous management incentive & bonus schemes. They can create perverse incentives for management to turbo-charge short term returns by dialling up risk and when the inevitable correction arrives to jump overboard with your golden parachute still in place.

Absolutely. If a few million in base salary doesn't get a CEO's best effort and they need shares as well to be incentivised then you probably have the wrong CEO
