Volatility returned to asset markets in September, with major global equity and credit markets retreating notably from their recent highs. The moves were largely in response to a multitude of weaker economic data releases both domestically and offshore, and continuing geopolitical concerns. Specifically, the fall in local markets and also the AUD were impacted by further falls in commodity prices, as well as the RBA indicating that it may look at some macro-prudential measures to cool the housing market.
