Stott: Two investment themes we like right now
Livewire
Chris Stott, Chief Investment Officer at Wilson Asset Management says the tourism boom and Chinese demand for consumer products are two themes currently providing opportunities for investors. Firstly, Stott says the fall in the currency over recent years has provided a powerful tailwind for tourism and momentum should continue should the currency stay at ‘lower’ levels. “It has really fueled the return of tourism… We’re seeing a large amount of Chinese tourists in particular, coming to Australia for the first time in a decade.” On the Chinese-consumer Stott says that despite the regulatory headwinds this theme still has some way left to run. “We think that this demand for Chinese products is not going away, but it’s going to be tapered down.” In this excerpt from a recent investor presentation Stott expands on how these themes are playing out and some of the companies he believes are well positioned to benefit from them.
