The stocks reviewed in PortfolioDirect this week are Alicanto Minerals, Augur Resources, Minotaur Exploration and Tangiers Petroleum. Minotaur Exploration was judged an appropriate stock for inclusion in an exploration portfolio. It has a strong skill base and a funding model which is giving the company access to several prospective regions in which reinterpretation of previous exploration work raises the prospect of fresh exploration success. The Tangiers Petroleum review, updated from August 2013, was triggered by a takeover bid for another African oriented oil and gas explorer. The Tangiers rating review concluded that the takeover added uncertainties at a time progress was being made at its primary Moroccan exploration opportunity. With the former effect offsetting the benefits of the latter, no change was made to the rating of the company.
