US stocks put in a decent recovery overnight on the back of strong earnings from Citi and positive retail sales figures. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index jumped 0.8% to 1,830.56 at 4 p.m. in New York. The gauge briefly erased an earlier rally of 1% before surging at the end of the day. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 146.42 points, or 0.9%, to 16,173.17 today.
