Hedley Widdup, Fund Manager at Lion Selection Group, says gold looks attractive on a number of fronts. “You and I could go out with a gold pan and a shovel and we’d be mining gold. It’s metallurgically quite simple, and it’s easy to sell.” In the shorter term, as fear and uncertainty reenter investor's minds, gold gains appeal. “Short to medium term, that’s an excellent place to be.” At the other end of the market, he identifies bulk commodities like iron ore and coal as continuing to face serious headwinds. He thinks coal could return to being sold in local markets instead of globally, and he expects iron ore to return to its pre-China boom trading range.
