The decline of regional Australia?
This week the ABS released its latest Regional Population Growth figures. Mirroring the trend seen in Labour Force releases the great bulk of total Australian population growth in FY2014 was seen in the capital cities (289,000). Notably as Australia has passed the peak of the mining construction boom population growth is becoming ever more focussed upon our two most populous cities. On the other hand, with the honourable exception of Queensland, population growth in regional centres has been weak, and far below the rate of population growth seen in the capitals. (VIEW LINK)
