Today's Consumer Price Index (CPI) release shows once again that inflation is clearly not a threat in the US at this time. June CPI climbed 0.3% from the previous month, but two-thirds of the entire increase was due to gasoline. Taking out food and energy, CPI climbed just 0.1% this month. The annual CPI trend held steady at 2.1%, but decelerated to 1.9% minus food and energy. Gasoline is higher because of the summer travel season as well as friction in the Middle East. As such, it doesn't paint an accurate picture of true inflation growth. Essentially, the current level of price increases should allow the Fed to remain content. (VIEW LINK)
